Women

General Information

PRFC has a very proud history of women’s rugby, dating back to the 1973 founding of the first-ever women’s team in Southern California, the Eleanors. After a ten year run, the Eleanors played their last season in 1983. In 2013 Pasadena Rugby entered a women’s team in a number of Southern California Summer 7s Tournaments. Interest continued to grow and the club committed to a full Women’s 15s program competing in the Southern California Rugby Football Union (SCRFU) Division II.

The Women’s team competes against teams from Southern California, Arizona, and New Mexico. The current roster has over 25 dedicated rugby players, with women ranging in age from early 20s to 40s. The players are a diverse group, representing many cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Professions are as varied as the players themselves, including lawyers, bankers, students, as well as entertainment industry, medical, and education professionals.

The Pasadena Women’s team is open to anyone, regardless of prior rugby experience. Some players have as many as ten years of rugby experience with club and college teams; many others have never played the sport before. Practice runs Tuesday and Thursday from 8pm–10pm at Duarte Sports Park.

This is a short documentary about the coming together of Pasadena Women’s Rugby Club.
